Career Development
Students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have countless opportunities for career development. Each service, program, office, event, workshop, or staff/faculty member have the capability to enrich your undergraduate experience. Each enrichment experience will collectively build your profile, so by the time you graduate, you will be a well-rounded individual with multiple attributes to bring to any professional position.
Start early! Before you know it, your time as a student will be over. You want to be certain that you begin building your profile from the start of your freshmen year. You may not have great amounts of time outside of the classroom, but always ask yourself if your free time is being used wisely. Be certain that your outside activities are building a foundation to your intended career path.
Make use of what others know! Always ask questions and seek out resources from professionals on campus. Professionals with degrees have already gone through the experience of being a student at a higher education institution. It is likely that they can keep you from making some of the same mistakes they may have made. It is also likely that they will know of resources, programs, or contacts in an area you are interested in learning more about. Networking is important and will open many doors in your educational and professional future.
Remember that education pays! A person with an advanced degree will make 3-4 times more money each year than another who did not graduate from high school. You will be paid for what you know and have experienced. Any advanced education experience will enhance the workplace and take you to the next level as a professional.
