Foreword
One of the great strengths of a world renowned academic institution like the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is the great diversity of its student body. Such diversity presents not only advantages for students, but special challenges as well. There will be times for every student when the adjustments, pressures and conflicting demands of home and school life will seem overwhelming. Studies show that this is especially true for students who are members of underrepresented groups. Consequently, in an effort to minimize these experiences, the Office of Minority Student Affairs has created many resources to inform you of the many services available to you in the years to come. Liaison Deans in all of the colleges are working in partnership with OMSA to provide a strong support network.
At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, you will face the many intellectual and social challenges presented by an academic institution of international stature -- challenges unlike any others that you have faced in the past. However, extending yourself to meet those challenges will bring about a process of self discovery and a sense of self confidence that is essential to personal and intellectual growth.
Campus resources have been developed in direct response to the needs of the ever-increasing number of minority and other students within our community. You can be assured that the University of Illinois administration is committed to continuing to increase the number of underrepresented students in the years to come.
