Graduate Counselor (GC)
Position Announcement 2009-10

Dear Potential Graduate Counselor Applicant:

The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) is currently accepting applications for the position of Graduate Counselor for the 2009-10 academic year. Graduate Counselors provide general counseling services to students, mostly new freshmen. These services include academic, personal, career and financial aid counseling. We work closely with other units on campus and numerous referrals are made, especially to college offices (academic advisors and deans), Housing, the Counseling Center, The Career Center, the Office of Student Financial Aid, and many other offices.

Graduate Counselors work ten hours per week and have regular meetings with students. Graduate Counselors may be eligible for assistantships, depending on the college of enrollment. Please review the "Remuneration" paragraph in the on line position announcement/application to determine whether you would be eligible for an assistantship, if hired as an OMSA Graduate Counselor. Applicants who are not eligible for an assistantship are employed on an hourly basis.

OMSA Graduate Counselors must attend mandatory training scheduled from Monday, 17 August 2009, to Wednesday, 19 August 2009. We are currently interviewing and decisions will be made around mid-June 2009, so you should submit your application soon if you are interested. We will continue to interview until suitable applicants have been identified to fill all available positions.

If you are interested in applying for the OMSA Graduate Counselor position please go to "http://illinois.edu/goto/gcapplicationpublic". The basic application requires 1) two letters of interest, 2) a fill-in-the blank application, and 3) a copy of your resume. Attach your resume to an email and send it to gcposition@gmail.com. The basic application must be completed before consideration for an interview will be given.

If you apply, you may use your Graduate College letters of reference for the OMSA GC application, if you are a NEW graduate student who will enroll at Illinois for the first time in fall 2009. Contact your college of enrollment and have the letters of reference sent to:
